Hi Chris,

I hope you are feeling better. Added stress was a major impediment to my healing journey. There are some things we’ve done to address environmental toxins. Here’s a list:

We’ve introduced a lot of plants into the house. Peace lilies, spider plants, & bamboo palm.

When we moved we tried to find furniture as close to toxin free as possible. (difficult)

The most important strategy was switching to a latex mattress. See my review here. (affiliate link) Nevertheless the mattress is awesome. We have 5 of them for the whole family.

Blue blocker glasses are a must for reducing blue light from computers and such.

Reverse osmosis filter for water purification.

I did get the mercury amalgams removed from one side of my mouth. Waiting to do the other side.

Since I am on a carnivore diet, I don't come into contact with a lot of chemicals that are applied to foods.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for sharing your journey. I have had CFS for 25+ years and I am now 56. I have come close to getting better, but unfortunately, divorce has knocked me down to largely starting over. I have tried many different things, but stress has always been an issue (trying to support a family while having CFS, a wife who is not supporting you and spends more money than you make, Covid,, etc...) So. ,my divorce is largely over and leaving me where I was afraid I would be largely broke and alone with a chronic illness. However, I can now get back to focusing on my health. I am glad to see that recovery and exercise are possible as I have always had an issue over the last 25 years when I was able to exercise of finding the balance of what wat not too much. I was wondering if you have done things to address environmental toxins, EMFs., or any other strategies that you have employed not listed in your current blogs.

Thank you for this article part 1 and 2. I have had moderate cfs for 30 years and finally decided to seriously try diet modifications.

I have been a junk food vegetarian for 14 years, but now drastically reducing foods with added sugar, increasing fruits which I love, and vegetables, which I love a bit less than fruits, lol.

Cutting back on processed foods, mostly due to high salt taste which is too much.

Taking multivitamins again.

I love bread, so that may be tough to reduce or eliminate, but I live potatoes and rice, so will try to focus on them.

I agree stress is likely a contributor, would characterize myself as prone to stress and anxiety.

Hi Lisa,
Thank you for your kind comments and for sharing your story. Your CFS experiences are very similar to mine. I also had Mono about 8 years before developing CFS. One of the strategies that really helped my sleep issues was diaphragmatic breathing. I use it every night before falling asleep. For me it works amazingly well. Even if I wake up during the night I use it to get back to sleep. I also have dysautonomia. It seems to be prevalent in CFS sufferers. Prolonged stress can also do serious damage to the autonomic system. In order to help keep my sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems balanced I also use deep breathing throughout the day. It takes some practice time to learn the technique but it’s been an invaluable tool in my recovery protocol. Keep pushing on, don’t give up! I pray you continue to get healthy.

God Bless,
John

Thank you Dr. Bianchi for sharing your research and journey. My ailments are similar to yours. Over 30 years ago, I was diagnosed with Mono. I feel that was the beginning of my CFS, though it took about 10 years for it to really affect me. I felt like I was having relapses (zero energy, sore throat, swollen lymph nodes, low grade fever) yet the doctors told me there was no such thing. They made me think I was going crazy, especially since my blood work always looked great! After I got married and had children, I quit being able to sleep through the night (my husband had late work hours leaving me to deal with our 5 young children during the night. My job has me working with some of the most violent stricken and impoverished children in our state. Talk about stress and worry for these innocent little ones!! I am close to following most of what you did to regain your health. My diet (except for going gluten free), walking and supplements (I have not heard of Lauricidan, but will be researching that next) match yours. Reading your strategies, sleep will be my next biggest obstacle. We no longer have young children, but getting solid sleep remains a problem. Your Blog has encouraged me to keep pushing forward and not give up. Much gratitude, Lisa

Hi Patricia,

Thank you for your kind comments. Yes, improving gut health is certainly at the top of the list of things to strive for in order to heal from a chronic illness. I think going GF and then paleo really helped me in this regard. What really got me over the top though was the ketogenic diet. A lot of people go keto for weight loss but it’s anti-inflammatory effects are also very powerful. Reducing stress was another big help for me. I hope you heal soon. Blessings.
