Review: Annie’s Rice Pasta & Cheddar Gluten Free Macaroni & Cheese

Here’s my unbiased review of Annie’s rice pasta & cheddar gluten free macaroni & cheese. I’m including cooking tips for a healthy all natural, easy gluten free meal.

Review: Annie’s Rice Pasta & Cheddar Gluten Free Macaroni & Cheese

Macaroni and cheese is undoubtedly a staple of childhood. It’s quick and easy to prepare, and both parents and kids love how delicious it tastes.

No one is too old to enjoy macaroni and cheese, and now with Annie’s Rice Pasta and Cheddar Gluten Free Macaroni and Cheese, those with celiac disease or non-celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS) can continue enjoying it as well.

Healthy facts

Annie’s gluten free macaroni and cheese is all natural and made with 100% real cheddar cheese and rice pasta. They do not use any artificial flavors or synthetic colors. The company works with trusted suppliers to source only non-GMO ingredients.

Easy and quick prep and cook time

It only takes 10-12 minutes to cook the macaroni. The package comes with a packet of cheese that you combine with ¼ cup of milk to make a cheese sauce, and then pour over the cooked noodles.

Cooking tips

Annie’s suggests that for a richer flavor, you can add 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter. For a tangier taste, you might like to replace the milk with a ½ cup of yogurt.

If you like your mac and cheese even cheesier, you can also add your own melted cheese in addition to the cheese sauce. And, of course, top with your favorite seasonings.

Cooking rice noodles can be a bit tricky. You don’t want to overcook them! Try tasting them as you are cooking until they reach the firmness you desire.

This may be a little less or a little more than the 10-12 minutes recommended on the box. Reduce the heat to a slow boil so that the noodles won’t tear apart.

You should also rinse the pasta after cooking to prevent the pasta from clumping together when you stir in the sauce.

Conclusion

This is definitely one of the best pre-prepared gluten free macaroni and cheese products my family has tried. There was no noticeable texture to the rice pasta, and it maintained a firm consistency after cooking.

Several of my taste testers confirmed that it was hard to tell the difference between this and wheat pasta, and the sauce was light, creamy, and delicious.

If you’ve recently started following a gluten free diet and are craving the Kraft mac and cheese you used to enjoy, we definitely recommend trying this gluten free substitute.

Annie’s Rice Pasta and Cheddar Gluten Free Macaroni and Cheese is a healthy alternative to many other brands. It’s fast and effortless to prepare for a tasty gluten free lunch or dinner.

You are right about Macaroni and Cheese being a childhood staple! I had given up eating it because I’m trying to stay away from all processed foods, but this one sounds economical and nutritious. I will have to give it a try! Thank you 🙂

I have to admit to not being a big pasta fan, it would be very popular with children though 🙂

I love the white cheddar shells variety of Annie’s GF macaroni, too! It’s really delicious. I always preferred the white cheddar varieties when I was able to eat gluten. Even gluten eaters love Annie’s GF pasta!

I love, love, love this boxed mac-and-cheese! I eat an ‘as clean as possible’ diet, and try to eat many things gluten free. GOD I MISSED MAC AND CHEESE SO MUCH. When I found this at Whole Foods, I never looked back!
