Prepped and ready to enjoy in just 15 minutes, this family recipe for gluten-free french toast is quick and easy!
What makes the perfect breakfast? French toast! It’s simple and easy to make. And it tastes delicious.
Ever since going gluten free, we imagined that french toast would remain a fond and distant memory.
But it turns out it can be made just as delicious with this spin off of my family recipe using gluten-free ingredients and gluten-free bread.
So it’s time for our happy dance.
Ingredients
The ingredients are simple. In fact, you probably have them right there in your pantry. Milk, eggs, cinnamon, vanilla, extra-virgin olive oil, salt, nutmeg, your favorite gluten-free bread, and butter.
Step by step images and instructions
*Free printable recipe card is available at the end of the post.
First, whisk the milk, eggs, vanilla, oil, and spices together in a shallow dish. Then soak your bread in the mixture until it’s saturated.
Now generously grease your griddle or skillet with butter over a medium heat until hot, but not smoking. Cook your soaked bread for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown. You want a nice soft center with slightly crisp edges.
Be sure to wipe you griddle after every batch and use fresh butter so that your butter doesn’t burn.
What do you eat french toast with?
Simply drizzling warm maple syrup on top is good.
But I think it’s especially yummy dusted with powdered sugar and garnished with orange slices and strawberries.
Then serve hot drizzled with warm maple syrup. You might prefer a pat of butter, honey, jam, candied nuts or even whipped cream. It’s up to you.
Pro tips and recipe notes
• Whisk your egg batter well so that you don’t end up with egg whites on your french toast slices.
• Soak your bread in the mixture until it’s saturated for a creamy texture on the inside, but not so that it’s too flimsy to hold together.
• Preheat your griddle on medium before putting your slices on so that they’ll start to cook as soon as they hit the pan, but not too hot that they’ll scorch.
• Wipe you griddle after every batch and use a new pat of butter so that your butter doesn’t burn.
Nothing says good morning quite like french toast. I can’t wait for you to taste this.
